Where We Stand

We care about the impact we have on our planet and people. That’s why we are always working to reduce our impact by making good decisions - the following are some examples of what we do to achieve that objective. We are committed to doing business in a sustainable and responsible way.

Our Product

We focus on well-made tailoring that is designed to last and that’s why we reject the wasteful approach of fast fashion. Examples of how we go about achieving that goal are:

Raw Material

We prefer high-quality fabrics produced from natural fibres which now make up over 85% (@ 2025) of the total meters we buy annually. (The fibre content refers to outer fabrics - not linings and pocketing).

Our largest supplier of fabric is the Italian weaving mill Reda who are world leaders in animal welfare, environmental and ethical standards best illustrated by their European Eco-Management Audit Scheme and B Corp certification.

Wear and Re-wear

By design, our tailored garments have a large seam allowance, allowing the easy resizing of a garment throughout its life and almost all Rembrandt suits can be purchased with an extra pair of trousers which extends its life.

Reuse and Reduce

The Rembrandt hire range is available throughout New Zealand making it easy to hire a garment for special occasions such as weddings and black-tie events.  The Rembrandt hire range reduces the total number of garments made and in circulation for the New Zealand market.

Packaging

The journey towards sustainability is made up of many small decisions. That's why our New Zealand packaging uses recyclable materials, is made from recycled raw material, has FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification and where possible is recycled.

Coat Hangers

Mainetti, a world leader in sustainable packaging supplies our coat hangers that are made from recycled plastic.

Our People

clothing factory people

We value the people who work for Rembrandt. That's why we see that our suppliers and partners provide fair and safe environments for their employees.

Our suppliers must agree to the Rembrandt supplier code of compliance. We also frequently visit our suppliers and they engage independent, specialist assessment organisations to conduct factory audits.  We review and monitor the internationally recognised certifications these suppliers hold.
